Communication is the greatest strength of human kind. No other species can so articulate their thoughts, feelings, and ideas in such intricate and sophisticated ways. Our ability to communicate has allowed humans to advance to the top of the food chain without naturally being the dominant species. Communication comes in two forms, interpersonal and mass communication. Interpersonal refers to an interaction between individuals while mass communication refers to broadcasting your message over a medium that accesses a much larger audience. The most impactful form of mass communication in recent memory has been the invention of the internet. The internet allows any individual with access to a computer and internet signal to communicate to almost anyone in the world instantaneously. It has allowed for more efficient business communication through email; increased marketing efficiency through social media; and it allowed for easier cross country and cross continent communication between friends and relatives. Recently, blogging has become one of the more prominent forms of mass communication. Blogging is basically writing an online personal journal or diary that allows individuals to share their ideas, while anyone has access to them. Because bloggers can reach out their ideas to such a wide variety of people, companies have utilized blogs as a new form of journalism. Because they can instantaneously post content and use social media to accumulate millions of page views in a manner of hours; blogging, has begun to replace paper forms of journalism such as newspapers and magazines. A popular sport blogging website Barstool Sports has become to make ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports reporting, online presentation obsolete. In fact, over 100 ESPN employees were fired this past week. Blogging is the future of communication and I would not be surprised if it one day completely replaces paper communication.
