In today's EOTO presentation, the two groups discussed individuals that either inhibited to progressed integration. The group that discussed the inhibition began with the impact of murders on Civil Rights activists including Megder Evers, MLK, Malcolm X, Emmett Till, and others. Their deaths had a massive impact for various reasons but all will be remembered for their service towards achieving Civil Rights. The group then discussed individuals and groups who put forth effort to stop the fight for integration. The individuals included Bull Connor, the police chief of Birmingham, AL, who abused his power as police commissioner to abuse African Americans and fight for Segregation. His violent actions during the Selma protest were made visible nationally and helped result in the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. A group that they mentioned was the Ku Klux Klan, a racist hate group, that put forth their best effort to prohibiting integration. They are best known during this time for beating and murdering Freedom Riders as they traveled down south.
